Subject: Northern California Hospital Cyber Terrorism Seminar Invitation and Registration
Hello Everyone -
An Invitation To All Northern California Hospital Managers; Hospital Cyber Departments; Hospital Emergency Management Coordinators; and Hospital Law Enforcement related Entities and their respective staffs:
Hello, my name is Brian Buckley and I am Special Agent with the FBI located in Sacramento, California. I currently serve as the FBI's coordinator for all infrastructure protection (including hospitals) in northern California.
The purpose of my contacting you is to invite each of you and your staff to a very important one day conference sponsored by the FBI through its public/private partnership with its Infrastructure protection component known as InfraGard on Cyber Terrorism specifically directed at hospitals. This conference is the first of its kind in the nation and very timely considering the recent frequency of attacks that are now occurring. The event is being funded by the Department of Homeland Security and is being conducted in concert with the Department of Health and Human Services both of whom will be sending high level representatives from Washington D.C.
Speakers from the FBI will include FBI case Agents from across the country who will articulate actual recent FBI investigations involving cyber attacks against hospitals including the manipulation of patient information within the hospitals system, the outright theft of patient information and the actual shutting down of entire hospitals. Also speaking at the event will be leading private sector cyber terrorism experts who have been called on by hospitals after recent invasion of their internal networks. Discussion of ways to avoid having your system invaded, corrupted or destroyed will be an important aspect of this conference. I am asking each of you receiving this invitation to please set aside this day to attend this event and to make those in your command aware and available to attend whenever possible.
Awareness of what is perhaps the greatest threat facing your institutions is of paramount importance to the FBI and the long list of medical and emergency organizations also sponsoring this event should help clarify its significance. A fabulous free lunch will be catered and you will have the opportunity to meet following that lunch with the federal, state and local law enforcement, emergency planners, and cyber experts from your region to discuss existing and planned initiatives to safeguard your hospital.
